Another challenge over at AAA Cards – it’s a colour scheme recipe with the guidance to be black and white and one other colour. As with all their challenges, the aim is to keep your card clean and simple (lots of white space, few, if any, embellishments and keeping elements to roughly one third of the card).

AAA Cards DT: One layer + big sentiment
Another clean and simple card for you, featured in AAA Cards latest challenge: one layer with an optional extra of a big sentiment. The mood board for this week’s challenge included hearts, I’m sure, in time for Valentine’s Day. I looked out my only stamp to feature a heart, hoping it wasn’t too fussy for a CAS card, and used it along with a big sentiment for my card:

Bible Journaling: Graffiti style
We’ve had a couple of Bible journaling sessions where we have worked off the page with different themes. For the next session, we’re working back in our journaling Bibles. Our theme will be ‘graffiti’ and the main technique that we’ll be using is creating gradients with our coloured pencils. As always, there will be a traceable printout for those that consider themselves a non-artist or you can do your own thing. The next session is on 14th February at 7:30 pm – contact me to book your place. The printable is also available as a free download from my online store. Here are my sample pics for your inspiration:

AAA Cards DT: Mood board + snow
This is my first post for AAA Cards, a clean and simple card design challenge blog. I joined the design team in January and will be posting inspiration cards bi-monthly (twice a month). Apparently, bi-monthly is both every two months and twice a month! Is it any wonder students find English difficult to learn?
The first challenge this year is a mood board (reproduced below) with the optional extra theme of ‘snow’. I took my colour scheme from the pic with the skier and the theme from the snowflake. It’s never too early to make a card for Christmas…

Craft Label DT: Exploding gift box
Just a quick post to show you an exploding gift box that I made using the First Edition ‘The Twelve Days of Christmas’ 12×12″ paper pad available from craftlabel.com (at the time of writing, it appears to be half price!). The box is die-cut using Simply Made Crafts Die Set Medium Exploding Gift Box | Set of 11 available from craftstash.co.uk. It features four boxes that fall sideways when the lid of the main box is opened. The fifth box in the centre isn’t included in the die set but is relatively simple to measure up and make.

LIM DT: Photo inspiration
It’s the last challenge of the year at Less is More and this time around it’s a photo inspiration. The idea behind this is to use the colours or textures or style within the photo to make your clean and simple card/project. Here’s my take on the photo inspiration (further down the post):

Craft Label DT: Ten Tags
Just popping in to share ten tags I’ve made with Craft Label / Dovecraft Premium Winter Wonderland paper pad and coordinating embellishments. Each tag started off as a 6×12 cm manila tie-on tag before I stuck down the various elements, trimming the paper to match the tag. Includes some glitter domes coloured with Nova designer markers (set of blues), Glossy Accents and mini gift bows.

AAA Cards DT: One Inchie
At the end of the summer, I was delighted to be invited to join the AAA Cards design team. AAA Cards is another clean and simple card challenge blog with a twice-monthly theme. All entries have a chance to win a ‘guest designer’ spot in a future challenge.
As a newbie DT member, I will start officially in January but feature in this week’s challenge as an introductory offer. The theme is ‘one inchie’ with the optional twist of making a card suitable for a man/boy. For those not in the know, an inchie is a piece of work that is either 1″ square or diameter. An added challenge is the requirement that all the artwork, sentiment, and matting must be within the prescribed one inch. There is an option for the inchie to be an aperture as a window to artwork inside.
An inch is not a lot of space and few, if any, of my stamps/die cuts/sentiments would fit. So, I thought laterally and rummaged through my stash until I found my shrink plastic. If the stamp is too big, shrink it!

LIM DT: Silhouette
This week’s theme at Less is More clean and simple challenge blog is ‘silhouette’. I considered a traditional take on the profile of a person but wasn’t particularly excited by that. Then I worked through all my stamps and came across a silhouette dragon, various cogs, flowers, and flourishes. One of the other design team members had used a floral theme, so that was out. Finally, I came across my well-used, but long-neglected, Stampscapes stamps from way back in the 1990s and decided they were perfect for the challenge:

Craft Label DT: Winter Wonderland Layout
Craft Label has released their Christmas goodies, and one part of the bumper crop is the Dovecraft Premium ‘Winter Wonderland’ collection. There’s premium paper pads, decoupage pad, clear stamps, embellishments, washi tape, ribbons and gift tags in a blue and silver colour scheme. I’ve used some of the elements to put together this 12×12″ scrapbook layout:
