Wanderlust 2022: Weeks 8-14

For this section of the fabulous Wanderlust 2022 art journaling/mixed media online course, we’ve been looking at using modelling paste and image transfers. Each week we’ve been set a different theme with a guest teacher showing us their project ideas and techniques. My previous sessions are here. This section’s layouts are here:

There’s nothing particularly new to me in this section, just the prompts to use the pastes within my layouts. There were a couple of technique tips, such as using pastes on tissue paper as a collage resource, which are useful to bear in mind.

The image transfer options are myriad, but I was only able to get a couple to reliably work (photo transfer medium/gel plate prints). I’m also going to need some fashion mags if I’m to do any more ‘people’ layouts.

The small oval image transfer is a pic of my father’s father, whom I never knew, onto wood veneer, with a pic of my grandmother and father. The lady in the image transfer is my great x2 grandmother, Edith, with the rest of the family in the smaller photo.

Napkin decoupage features on three of the layouts – a ready source of colour and outlines with minimal thickness. It works best, in the main, on light coloured backgrounds so that the unprinted tissue ‘disappears’. This didn’t happen with thicker tissue paper on the cogs/industrial layout which was a shame.
