LIM: More than one type of foliage

It’s recipe time at Less is More and the theme chosen is ‘more than one type of foliage’. One of the main aims of the challenge (aside from making sure the card is clean and simple) is to make the theme to be the focus of the card. There was only one stamp set I could think of in my collection that would fit the bill – a set of five fern fronds by Hero Arts. Here’s the eventual winner, from three I made, for my design team card:

Quick and simple – stamp the fronds in three colours of archival ink (see below), mask off the borders and centre panel before adding blended distress inks and stamping the sentiment.

Here’s the first card I made using much the same technique. I used Forest Moss on the edges of the colour panel, which turned out to be too dark and I lost contrast on the foliage. I added the flowers by stamping with acrylic paint, but that wasn’t opaque enough so I used Posca pens over the top. I didn’t like the finished card at all!

And finally, a different take on the theme. I used Distress Oxides to stamp the foliage. The flowers are punched from Bazzill cardstock before shading with ProMarkers and white Posca. This design was ok, but I didn’t think it had enough ‘class’ to be my DT choice.

  1. I love those fern images, and I honestly really love all of the cards you made with them. I love all the green hues, and those little purple flowers on card 2 look great with the greens. I love the burlap-like image on #3. You are way too hard on yourself!

  2. I agree with Stephanie, you’re far too hard on yourself, I love them all! Great stamp layering on all of them and the darker sentiment on your first one really draws out those darker ferns. I love the crisp edges of your inked panel on the second and the positioning of the foliage on your third card is perfection, love that layout x

  3. I’m echoing our two teamies, you are too hard with yourself since your three cards are beautiful. I especially love the second one. The purple and orange of the flowers look so gorgeous over all the green foliage ! This would be my winner !
