LIM: Colour Challenge

It’s time for another challenge at Less is More… This time we have a colour challenge: Blue and Silver or Red and Gold. For me, they are classic Christmas colours, so I’ve used that theme for my cards this time around. First up, my choice for my design team card. It’s hard to see with the reflections, but the snowflakes are heat embossed in silver. The watercolour is Chipped Sapphire Distress Stain flooded into water, then splattered with water and blotted dry.

Three other cards for your inspiration:

This small snowflake swirl didn’t show up with enough detail once I’d heat embossed in silver. The main snowflake, of course, coloured once I’d added the background distress stain wash and going in after with a white Posca pen didn’t quite work out either.

This is a quick and simple card – stamp and heat emboss in silver onto pearlescent blue paper. Stick to the card and add a sentiment to finish.

Finally, a red and gold card to complete the colour challenge. This is another quick and simple card – stamp and emboss the noel stamp in gold embossing powder onto red card. I then painted Fired Brick Distress Stain into the letters to darken them. I liked that so much that I cut the noel apart and stuck the pieces down onto the same red card painted with the distress stain to make a dark background.

  1. Wow, Neil, you really went to town here! I love all of your cards. Love the silver embossing on your watercolor wash and the vertical placement of your sentiment on the first. The second is my personal fave – I just love that little wispy cluster of stars and snowflakes and the watercolor around them. Love your last 2 – so simple and classic. All fabulous makes for our challenge.

  2. Neil what a fabulous collection of cards! I love the layered effect of the silver and watercolouring, with overstamped sentiment and your red and gold ‘noel’ is also really effective. Great job – I couldn’t choose a favourite!

  3. A beautiful gallery of card Neil! I( particularly like the first with that gorgeous background and the movement you’ve created with the swirl. The gold embossing on red is fabulous too and the way you’ve presented it reminds me of stained glass. Vicky 🙂
