This month’s theme of love and compassion draws on five verses that reflect God’s love for his world, and how we are instructed to show that same love to one another. From the Old Testament through to the New, that commitment threads its way through Scripture — a constant from the very beginning, and just as present today.
Here are five new illustrations inspired by those verses.

Developing the illustrations
Each illustration began with the question of what best expressed the heart of the verse — sometimes an action, sometimes a symbol, and sometimes letting the words do more of the work. Others draw on the context of the passage, for example, the actions for the second illustration are inspired by those done for the ‘least of these’ (Matthew 25:40-45). The finished illustrations combine traced outlines and Polychromos pencil colouring. To create the ribbon-writing, I switched to Procreate on the iPad — using techniques I learned from Stefan Kuntz’s excellent Ultimate Procreate course. The illustrations were developed this time with a combination of ChatGPT, Gemini and all my own handiwork.
