LIM DT: One layer card – ‘hello sunshine’

It’s a one-layer challenge over at Less is More clean and simple card-making challenge blog. Don’t forget that one layer means just that… everything has to be on the card blank. No die cuts, no matting and very minimal, if any, embellishments. The theme is ‘hello sunshine’. I have tried to emulate a sunrise with my design team card:

Used to make this hello sunshine card

  • Stampers Anonymous / Tim Holtz Mini Layering Stencil: Rays [THMS126]
  • Ranger / Tim Holtz Distress Inks: Festive Berries / Spiced Marmalade / Fossilized Amber / Mustard Seed
  • Ranger Archival Ink: Jet Black
  • Stix2 Mask-It
  • 6×6″ card blank

I started by doing a quick Google search for images of sunrises to get a feel for the colour palette and placement. I cut a circle and offset circle from the Mask-It sheet using my Silhouette. Stick both in place at the bottom of the card blank surrounded by masking tape or the piece of masking that you cut the circles from. Remove the main circle and blend yellow distress ink round the edges trying to leave the centre white. Replace the main circle mask and remove the surrounding masking, leaving the outline circle in place.

Place the stencil over and blend inks through to create the coloured rays. Lift stencil, wipe clean, flip over, line up the overlap and repeat the colouring to fill in the gaps from the first application. I designed the text-on-a-path and cut from Mask-It on the Silhouette. Apply the mask, taking note to pop the centre of the ‘O’ back in and blend archival ink into the lettering. Remove all the masking and you’re done.
