AAA Cards DT: ink blending 3 or more colours

There are a lot of choices when it comes to crafting ink – pigment, water-based, hybrids, dye, oil-based. The challenge over at AAA Cards for the next fortnight is to make a clean and simple card featuring ink blending. My go-to when ink blending is mentioned is distress inks. They are pretty much specifically engineered to blend with the secondary benefit of being water-reactive. Here’s my take on the theme:

ink blending on birthday card

This is a quick card to make. I cut the ring on the laser (or you could use an electronic cutter) and then randomly chose distress ink colours to blend. I stamped the sentiment in a colour I hadn’t used, using distress oxide ink for a more opaque result. I used an inch-diameter paper punch to cut out the sentiment (‘cos I designed the stamp to fit that way). Finally, I mounted them on foam pads and stuck them down to my card blank.

Used for this ink blending card

  • Ranger / Tim Holtz Distress Inks: Wilted Violet / Fossilized Amber / Mowed Lawn / Peacock Feathers / Carved Pumpkin
  • Ranger / Tim Holtz Distress Oxide: Candied Apple
  • Sentiment: bespoke laser-cut rubber stamp
  • 6×6″ card blank

***BREAKING NEWS***

AAA Cards are having a DT call!

We’re looking for a few new Design Team members to start in January 2024.

If you like making CAS cards as we know them and would like to be on our team, then make a card for this and the next challenge and put DT after your name.

Our definition of CAS is:

  • Minimal noise
  • One focus image/point
  • Minimal or no layers (max 3)
  • Minimal or no embellishments
  • Maximum empty space (empty/white space means no textured cardbase)
See our Design team makes if you’re unsure.

The DT call will wrap up with the next challenge. There’s no monetary reward, just your chance to showcase your work and build your name, we all do it because we love it.

The current Admin and DT will choose the players to be featured (‘winners’) from entries to the challenges. You should have a FB account as we handle most things DT on FB (chat and upload photos). A blog is handy for scheduling posts, but not a must, just preferred, as our challenges go live at 8AM UK time. As we welcome DT members from all over the World, your time zone might not be the easiest to go live at the right time. If you have an IG or FB business account you can schedule posts. Also, it’s important to comment positively on entries from players. You will have a column to comment on. This is most important as we rely on our players for the challenge to exist.

We would like to invite new DT members from November 1st so you have time to work on the challenges. We’ve already published the challenges for 2024 so everyone can work ahead – it’s important to be able to stick to deadlines.
