A new theme starts at AAA Cards clean and simple card challenge blog today and runs for the next two weeks. This time we are asking for cards that feature a tag or a ticket. There are some great inspiration cards from the design team, and here’s my take on the theme:
This was a bit of an experiment, and it largely worked out ok. It’s a one-layer card. I stamped the tag image first using a stamp platform in archival ink onto a kraft card blank (5×7″). After a quick heat set, I masked off the image and blended white pigment ink over the top. I then popped the card back into the stamp platform and overprinted in black again. This was the bit that didn’t quite work out as expected… The archival ink seemed to sink under the pigment ink (which didn’t dry) and was not as crisp as I wanted. I remedied this a little later, see below. The buckling that occurred in the card when heated also caused a bit of movement when stamping, resulting in a slight blur at the bottom of the stamp. Hey ho, worth having a go at something new.
I stamped the star and then liberally applied the antistatic pad since the pigment inks hadn’t dried and would pick up the embossing powder. The sentiment is heat embossed and required a little tidying up due to the stray powder sticking where it wasn’t wanted. Unhappy with the whitened edges, I risked swiping them with a baby wipe – the pigment ink wiped off nicely as a water-based component, leaving the waterproof archival ink behind. Take care not to pill the cardstock while wiping.
