LIM DT: Photo inspiration – one layer card

You have a fortnight to join in the latest Less is More clean and simple card challenge. It’s a photo inspiration theme – take whatever elements you like from the provided photo prompt, whether it be colours, shapes, theme, words and so on. Oh, it’s also a one-layer card challenge – no embellishments, matting, die-cuts… Everything has to be on the card blank. Scroll down for the inspiration photo and description of how I made this design team card:

making notes for my daisy card

I used a free daisy outline SVG to create my 6×6″ card blank. Import the file into your editing app of choice (I use Adobe Illustrator) and create a vertically reflected copy. Overlap the two flower outlines to create the hinge fold, weld together and then add a score line vertically through the join. Trim off the bottom to create a straight base. Check the width is 11.5″ and the height is 5.75″ to fit a standard 6×6″ envelope. Move the centre circle away from one side and delete from the other. Cut and score the daisy from white card and fold along the hinge (I use the Silhouette Connect plugin to send it to my Silhouette Cameo). Using the saved circle, add another a couple of centimetres wider (offset function works well for this) and cut from masking tape. Use this doughnut to act as a stencil for applying the paint to the centre. Use several shades of paint to build up a bit of depth and then peel off the masking tape before the paint fully dries. Stamp your sentiment in the centre once the paint is fully dry and you’re done.

Used for my make

  • Generic 250gsm white card stock (12×12″)
  • DecoArt Americana acrylic paint: True Ochre / Cadmium Yellow / Bright Yellow / Banana Cream
  • Ranger Archival Ink: Sepia
  • Stix2 Mask-it sheet
  • Sentiment stamp: custom self-designed laser cut rubber stamp
