AAA Cards: A shaped card ± Easter

So, Easter is an optional twist on this week’s clean and simple card challenge over at AAA Cards. The main challenge is to use a shaped card that isn’t square or rectangular, with the suggestion that egg-shaped cards might be fun. Well, Easter celebrations, for me, are more than chocolate eggs, fluffy bunnies and cute chicks so I came up with this card instead:

Easter cross card

I utterly screwed up this card by adding too much glitter glue. Though it looks better in real life, the glitter has obliterated the underlying ink patterns and rather than being a subtle highlight has dominated the card. Hey ho. Keeping the clean and simple aesthetic was hard to do as well.

I started with the cross shape, using a roll of masking tape as my circle template. Trim with a knife. I used the yellow/orange distress oxide inks blending through the swirl/spiral stencil in layers to get gradients and overlaps and build interest and depth. This is what has disappeared behind the glitter. Blend the brown/black distress oxide inks for the ground. Stamp the sentiment, cut it to form a banner and curl it to shape before glueing it down.

Used in this cross-shaped Easter card

  • Stencil: unknown manufacturer
  • Ranger / Tim Holtz Distress Oxides: Scattered Straw / Spiced Marmalade / Gathered Twigs / Black Soot
  • Ranger Stickles Glitter Glue: Yellow
  • A6 card blank

  1. Hi Neil,
I saw your card at AAA cards and I love your design. So glad there is someone who said that Easter more is than eggs and bunny’s and so on. Sometimes it looks like there are so many people who doesn’t know what the real meaning of Easter is….

  2. Great idea and thanks for the reminder what Easter is truly about…Christ!
