AAA Cards DT: White-on-white

Single-colour cards can be really tricky on two levels: creating contrast to make elements stand out from the card blank and photographing that contrast effectively. The next AAA Cards’ clean and simple card challenge is to make a white-on-white design using no other colours. Here’s my design team sample:

By mounting layered elements on foam pads, you can create contrast using shadows. You might also use embossing and cutouts to emphasise shadows. I went through some of my cutting files from my college course (was that really ten years ago?!) and chose my hand-drawn octagonal lily design to cut out of card using my Silhouette Cameo electronic cutting machine. I used a spare card blank to cut the lily layer so that I had the same shade of white. The lily element is octagonal by design, so I mounted it and then cut the 6×6″ square card to shape it to match. There’s no sentiment on the front, but the inside is blank ready for whatever greeting is required.
