The current challenge at AAA Cards blog is to use a rectangle just 1/9th of the card face. The optional twist is to add butterflies to your layout. The normal ratio of white space to an image on a clean and simple card is 2/3rds to 1/3rd, so reducing this again makes for an extremely clean card, though not necessarily simpler. Here’s my take on the theme:
I started by masking off my 1/9th with stencil tape before stamping the text with archival ink. I used distress ink to shade the background, adding splashes of water for a bit of depth and texture. Next, I stamped one square of a collage stamp onto a separate piece of watercolour cardstock and coloured it with AquaMarkers – outline around the edges and then blend into the centre with a water brush. Mount the watercolour card on foam pads and the card is done.
Used to make 1/9th of this card
- Woodware Clear Magic Singles clear stamp: Shipped Script [ADS505]
- Darkroom Door Collage Stamp: Butterfly Post [DDCS008]
- Ranger archival ink: Jet Black
- Ranger / Tim Holtz Distress Ink: Antique Linen
- Letraset AquaMarkers: Sunburst Yellow / Royal Purple
- 6×6″ card blank
Love your use of the 1/9th and the image you’ve chosen.
Love how this almost looks like a vintage postage stamp! Very pretty!
