This is my first post for AAA Cards, a clean and simple card design challenge blog. I joined the design team in January and will be posting inspiration cards bi-monthly (twice a month). Apparently, bi-monthly is both every two months and twice a month! Is it any wonder students find English difficult to learn?
The first challenge this year is a mood board (reproduced below) with the optional extra theme of ‘snow’. I took my colour scheme from the pic with the skier and the theme from the snowflake. It’s never too early to make a card for Christmas…
I started by adding alcohol ink in two tones to glossy card stock and blending several layers together to get a mottled background. Stamping with an alcohol ink lift pad (stamp ink and then wipe off) resulted in a pale version of the stamp but wasn’t as white as I had hoped. I rotated the stamp 180 degrees and stamped again, this time using Picket Fence Distress Ink. The image, again, was less opaque than I wanted but, hey, snowflakes are translucent after all. I masked the 5×7″ card blank and stamped the Christmas sentiments background stamp before sticking down the snowflake panel. Finally, add stickles glitter glue around the elements. I tried adding a sentiment, but it spoilt the feel of the card so got dumped.
Used in this card:
- Ranger / Tim Holtz Alcohol inks and blending solution
- Ranger / Tim Holtz Alcohol Lift-Ink pad
- Snowflakes stamp by Great Impressions [H128]
- Darkroom Door Word Block Stamp: Christmas [DDWB006]
- Ranger / Tim Holtz Distress Ink: Tumbled Glass
- Ranger Stickles: Twilight
- Stix2 stencil tape
Such a fabulous and minimalist card. I just love our take on the moodboard
Fabulous CAS card Neil. Love the pop of text behind your central element.
The brighter blue snowy centre looks beautiful layered over the paler sentiments panel Neil. Lol at bi-monthly – what a language!! Vicky 🙂
