Trimcraft Maker: Geometric Dreamcatcher

The makes continue… I’ve finished off my pack of Rose Gold Geometric decoupage paper making this mobile/dreamcatcher. Two layers of the decoupage paper are surprisingly resilient whilst still being semi-translucent, making this a good suncatcher as well. I tried taking a pic against a window, but it didn’t turn out well… so you have it against a white background instead.

used to make this dreamcatcher

  1. Make a loop approx. 6″ in diameter from the aluminium wire and tap with a hammer all the way round to work harden the metal.
  2. Fold the decoupage paper so that the pattern matches (as far as possible) on each side, with the foiled side facing outward.
  3. Glue the back of one side, place the loop on top and sandwich it by smoothing down the top layer onto the glued layer. Add a layer of varnish to both sides. Allow to dry completely. The piece is likely to curl, so straighten out on a flat surface.
  4. Repeat the glueing process for the remaining pieces of decoupage paper (how much depends on what you have, I think I used one and a half sheets). Allow to dry. Flatten out if it curls.
  5. Fussy cut elements from the geometric pattern, and from the looped area too.
  6. Thread together using the beading wire – you may need a pokey tool to punch a hole through the double layer of decoupage paper.
  7. Hang in a window or against a wall to keep the right side forward (the pattern is unlikely to be perfect match front and back, despite your best efforts).

First Edition Papers and Glue can be purchased at CraftStash. They should also be available in The Range stores in a couple of weeks’ time.
