Another Challenge Card: Less Is More

Another challenge blog I used to go to regularly is ‘Less is More‘. It’s another challenge blog that’s still going some 6 years later! The concept behind their challenges is to have plenty of white space on the card, with minimal fuss and minimal layers (ideally just the one). It’s more my style than cards with lots of die cuts and layers of matting and ribbon. So, being on a little bit of a roll, I have followed their recipe #409 – pick a triangle.

I’ve used masking tape to create the triangle and a single colour of Distress Ink to do all the elements (Chipped Sapphire). I blended the background first before overstepping with the Christmas sentiments. I have to admit to using a fussy cut watercolour (with distress ink) crib as there was no easy way of masking off the remainder of that stamp. Finally there was the addition of the star and the rays to complete the card. I’m delighted with the outcome, and if it wasn’t for the fussy cutting, I’d probably consider it as next year’s family Christmas card.

used in this card

  • Ranger/Tim Holtz Distress Ink: Chipped Sapphire
  • Stix2 Stencil Tape
  • Darkroom Door Word Block Stamp: Christmas [DDWB006]
  • Stampendous Cling Tiny Prince [CRR273]
  • Posca PC1MR: White
  • Kuretake Brush Pen: White

  1. Wow Neil, you are having a busy and productive day! …. being a fan of CAS, I love the impact of this card (and another challenge blog to research!).

Just a thought – to use this as a family Christmas card whilst avoiding hours of fussy-cutting, perhaps you could find a similar manger die, and use that as a stencil (heavily-applied Sapphire + white highlights)?

  2. Loving your monochromatic take on our triangle challenge, a really well thought out design. Thanks so much for sharing with us at Less is More, Anita x
