I have a chair in our hall that seems to have been designed specifically for the dogs to sleep on, clamber onto to see out of the hall window, and otherwise act as a dumping point for bags as one comes through the door. Thus, apparently, it needed a contemporary cover that looked smarter than the throw that routinely covers it. The suggested colour scheme matched some fabric I bought some time ago, and after a quick planning session, I set to with a quilted pattern of my own making…
Now, as patterns go, it’s not perfect – the large diamonds should really have come to points, and it could do with being a little narrower – but I would have had to cut all the large squares from my layer cake to a smaller size and let’s face it, it’s only for the dogs to lie on. Quilting is stitch-in-the-ditch with a cross securing the large diamonds. The triangles left over from the main quilt happened to sew together nicely and with a little trimming made a suitable cushion cover with a simple fold-over fastening on the reverse. The reverse of the quilt is a brushed cotton tartan, so should guests arrive I can whip it over and it’ll appear nice and clean…
