Art Journal Page: 2016?

On Monday night I have my art journal session in The Studio, and we’re using the prompt ‘New Year’. This layout developed from a teaching session I did with a new Studio guest a few weeks ago, showing the difference and similarities between Distress Oxides (left-hand side) and Distress Inks (t’other side). A quick layer of acrylic paint forms the background to the white text. The purple text is a combination of stamped and handwritten, using Distress Oxides and Posca pen respectively.

Bizarrely, as I was colouring in the outline of the year, I realised I’d written 2016. 2016? Where did that come from – it’s 2019. There was no neat way of undoing it, so it’s been left as is. Perhaps, given my track record this year (see this post) with committing pen to paper before a pencil, I will need to review this practice.

And the resolution? I’ve already signed up for online classes to learn Blender, 3D modelling software which allows (experience permitting) to create 3D models for printing out, animation and even compositing with real-life video. Judging by initial free tutorials on YouTube that I followed during Twixmas, it’s going to be a steep learning curve.

I’m introducing a new class at The Studio – Bible journaling on the third Monday evening of the month. We’ll be covering which media to use and various techniques for illustrating scripture as a regular spiritual activity.

And online classes – I’ve threatened for a little while that I would be offering online classes, and they have never yet come to be. This year will be the year it happens. That is once I have got my head around Facebook Live, made sure the phone is the right way round and the sound is ok. There is also the possibility of video tutorials to contend with. Hopefully, my TV presenting experience will help – except I’ll need the director and producer, editor and probably an autocue. Hmmm. Much to get my head around!
