I’ve snuck this creation in between finishing a commissioned art journal, and making the samples for tomorrow’s fabric printing/painting workshop. The Pick A Stick Challenge for the uninitiated is ten techniques or journal promptsĀ pulled at random by one of the four coordinators of the challenge, and you must then create your page usingĀ those steps in the order in which they were pulled. This is what I came up with for June’s ten sticks š
Step 1: Make a mess/blot it up
Seedless Preserves Distress Spray, water spritz, blotted up using journal
Step 2: Add numbers
Various stamps and a stencil – all inked with Wendy Vecchi Cactus Flower Archival Ink and heat set
Step 3: Crayon Resist and Acrylic
This seemed to be a problem for some in the group. I used an oil pastel (white hearts) with watered down Picked Raspberry Distress Paint. It’s the watering down that helps the resist work. Splattered with water, blotted and heat set
Step 4: Write something with love
What better than verses from 1 Corinthians 13? Used white Posca pen (1M)
Step 5: Create a tag to use on your page
Step 6: Add fashion element
Step 7: Stitch
Tag stained with Picked Raspberry, spritzed with water and dried. Button added as fashion element and heart machine stitched onto tag
Step 8: Use alcohol
Bit early in the day to add alcohol to artist, so instead I dropped isopropanol onto the page – it made the archival ink blotchy and a little of the Distress Paint also rubbed off
Step 9: Draw something
It’s a bit hard to see, but I added dangles under the ruler and scrollwork round the top left heart using pink Posca pen. Not happy with outcome as not enough contrast, but hey ho
Step 10: Use images
I stamped a new collage stamp from Darkroom Door onto white card with Cactus Flower Archival Ink, cut out the images and stuck them down before adding the purple lines with Posca pen. Without the lines, the page really didn’t work at all
