Which watercolour effect?

I’ve been playing with various watercolour effects, out of curiosity more than any thing! Thought I’d share the results, just in case someone else might be interested… All of them feature a Stampendous stamp (Cling Poppy Scene #CRM234).

Distress Reinker Watercolour Technique
Printed with Archival Jet Black on watercolour paper. Painted with waterbrush and distress reinkers. Sky: Tumbled Glass; Trees: Peeled Paint; Hills: Shabby Shutters; Hedge: Bundled Sage; Roof: Rusty Hinge; Door: Vintage Photo; Field: Mustard Seed/Tea Dye; Poppies: Barn Door/Fired Brick/Black Soot.

Distress Markers
Embossed outline in WOW! Ebony, on white card stock. Colours as above. Much more muted palette, not nearly as vibrant as the distress inks proper – perhaps due to more absorption into the paper, but I think the formulation in the pens is significantly different.

Derwent Watercolour Collection
Printed with Archival Jet Black onto watercolour paper. Colour picked up from pencils using water brush. Note that the colour is opaque and hides the black outline. Sky: Aquatone (AT) 33 Light Blue; Trees: AT 50 Cedar Green; Hills: AT 46 Emerald Green; Hedge: mix of greens; Roof: AT 63 Venetian Red; Door: Watercolour Pencil (WP) 54 Burnt Umber; Field: WP 7 Naples Yellow/AT 63 Venetian Red; Poppies: AT 14 Deep Vermillion/20 Crimson Lake/WP 67 Ivory Black.

Letraset Promarkers
Printed with Memento Tuxedo Black onto Ryman 200gsm bright white coated card. Sky: Cool Aqua; Trees: Olive Green; Hills: Apple; Hedge: Pear Green; Roof: Spice; Door: Walnut; Field: Sunflower/Tan; Poppies: Poppy/Burgundy/Black. Another set of luminous colours 🙂

  1. Okay, now you have me in a state of quandary. I recently got this same stamp on sale and I have been playing with it on WC, Bamboo, etc papers. Greay minds think a like!!!.

  2. my favorite is the Distress reinkers, it has the most life to the painting. normally I would go with Derwent Inktense watercolors, they would give the same life. The Promarker is my least favorite, it’s too garish. They have their place for the right subject matter. The distress markers give a very dull effect. Good for a distressed subject matter, but not dancing poppies.
    Have a great day

  3. I like the Distress Reinkers the best, followed by the Derwent Inktense Watercolors. The Distress Markers is my least favorite. I really just haven’t fallen in love with the way they look very much so far.

  4. I love all 4 combinations here–I could use each one in different rooms! I am an addict for stamping but don’t do a lot of coloring. I have Derwent pencils, so that might be a fun way to try!

  5. I like the Distress Reinker Watercolour Technique and the Letraset Promarkers. The color is crisp and I like that
