Mini-Suitcase Memory Boxes

And this is the second part of the demo/workshop day to be held at Kim’s Crafts (Hinckley Branch) – mini-suitcase memory boxes:

The suitcases are from Creativ Company, and start out as kraft coloured paper mache style finish before I applied paints and inks to them.

For my Paris memory box, I sponged on acrylic paints for a leather texture. Inside I used a 12×12″ double-sided sheet of card stock from the K&Co Blue Awning paper pack to make the fold out sections (they each fold out again from the photo’d position). The inner lining is Tim Holtz’s tissue tape and a map of the route printed from Google Maps. All is distressed with Frayed Burlap distress ink. Various stamped images and bling from my stash complete the look. The base of the suitcase has room for ephemera.

And for my shabby chic suitcase celebrating the makeover of the dining room, I followed much the same principle, using chalky cream emulsion for the base coat to reflect the room decor, lining the suitcase lid with wallpaper offcuts. The foldout paper is from Tim Holtz’s Crowded Attic paper stack. All of the elements are distressed with Tattered Rose distress ink. The carpet off cut will be accompanied by fabric offcuts and more pictures of the completed room. The stamps on the outside are cut out from a printout of a sample picture of the wallpaper gleaned from the internet.
