The Studio

The Studio – garden-based creative space for art and craft workshops

Welcome to The Studio

A creative space for painting, crafting, stitching, and sparking imagination.

Nestled at the bottom of my garden, The Studio is a warm, welcoming space designed to encourage creativity and relaxation. Whether you’re picking up a paintbrush for the first time or you’re a seasoned crafter looking to try something new, there’s a seat ready for you.

What’s on offer?

I run a variety of small-group classes and sessions from The Studio, all designed to be relaxed, hands-on, and full of inspiration:

  • Art Journaling – explore mixed media, layering, and personal reflection through art
  • Come and Craft Sessions – bring your current project and craft in good company
  • Stitch and Quilt – perfect for textile and yarn lovers looking to learn, chat, and sew
  • Laser Use Classes – learn how to safely use xTool lasers and create bespoke designs
  • Bespoke Classes & Workshops – tailored creative workshops for individuals or small groups

Whether you’re interested in paper, thread, or light beams, there’s something here for you.

Who’s running the show?

I’m Neil Burley, working as a freelance mixed media artist since 2012. I have an Extended Diploma in Art & Design and have been a crafter for over 25 years. I’ve taught many, many creatives over the years, and nothing brings me more joy than seeing class attendees build their confidence and find their creative voice.

A space to create

The Studio accommodates up to 8 guests (class size depends on the activity) and is fully equipped for a range of creative techniques. It’s a peaceful garden studio with plenty of natural light, creative energy, and a few homemade biscuits now and then. You’re also welcome to peruse my library of craft themed books and art journaling magazines.

Please note: there are a few steps between the house and studio, and on-street parking is usually available right outside. I don’t consider The Studio to be wheelchair accessible (so sorry about that). The toilet facilities are in the house.

Where is it?

The Studio is a mile from Fosse Park / M1 Jn21 and 10 minutes taxi from the bus or rail stations in the centre of Leicester.
