Another Arrers design. This one could be embellished with colour or adding ‘veins’ to the leaf shapes on the edge of the centre motif.

There’s quite a wealth of potential in making repeating patterns with block arrows it seems… here’s another in my series. Again, it’s not technically a zentangle pattern as it breaks just about every one of the ‘rules’. It’s a great space filler though as a tangle pattern for your zentangle inspired art pieces.

My pen has been busy on paper, and there are three more patterns on their way using block arrows as their basis. These do depart from the zentangle ‘rules’ about tangle patterns, but I still reckon they are worth using. I am slightly biased though… Here’s the next tangle pattern in my series:
This is a BOGOF design – two motifs are melded together. Either would work on their own as a repeating pattern with no problem. I’ve drawn the sample en pointe as I think it looks better.
This is the third tangle pattern design based on the block arrow. It’s a little more tricky to draw. Try shading different areas – there are plenty of combinations to explore.

The second tangle pattern based on the archetypal block arrow. This one is a little more complex to draw. It works well as a stand-alone motif, but much better as a tiled design.

I’ve been playing, designing three new tangle patterns in the process based on the archetypal block arrow. The first tangle pattern is a simple cross pattern – the next two are a little more complex. As always, shading does make quite a difference to the finished design.

Here’s another tangle pattern – this one is based on (apparently) traditional weaving pattern used by Zulus in their hut walls. Whether that’s true or not, it’s a handy filler pattern and looks great with shading to add depth and interest.
I think this tangle pattern comes into its own with shading to emphasise the layers within the design. And I’m aware the motif is not a Mobius strip, but that’s what it reminded me of. It will work well as a border, and also point to point rather than off-set as I have drawn it.
