Following a request left on my blog, I’ve spent the evening playing with typographical elements other than curly braces! This one starts off with the brilliant question mark… and it appears again in steps 2, 4 and reversed in 5. Hmmm, wonder where I came up with the name 😉

XY – tangle pattern
Ok, so there are other ways of drawing this pattern, but it starts with an X and adds lots of Y’s. The window in the centre is technically a variation of the pattern, but I liked it so much I left it in.
UVW – tangle pattern
This pattern is brought to you by the letters U, V and W. Reminiscent of the navajo indian patterns, it can be drawn in lots of ways after the main motif is established.
KLM – tangle pattern
Not the Dutch national airline, but a tangle pattern developed from the typographical elements of the letters K, L and M. As with other tangle patterns, you may find easier ways to draw the repeating pattern once you have the hang of the motif.
ABC – tangle pattern
Let’s start at the very beginning, it’s a very good place to start, with the letters ABC cunningly combined to form this great tangle pattern. Chance for some shading on this one to highlight some of the hidden shapes, e.g. the band formed by the base section of the ‘A’.
Curly Braces Quad – tangle pattern
Another pattern based on curly brackets. Try stopping the pattern at either step 3 or 4 for a less busy effect.
Curly Braces Trio – tangle pattern
This is the third in a series of four patterns using curly brackets as the basic shape. A little tricky to get the pattern established, but once you do, it gets easier.
Dayzee – tangle pattern
An original design born from playing with octagons. Try shading the border for a variation.
Curly Braces Too – tangle pattern
I’m having fun with curly brackets! This is another original design, possibly a tangleation of my own Curly Brace pattern, but different enough to have it’s own name 🙂
Octagonal – tangle pattern
Ok, so there might be easier ways of constructing this tangle pattern, but I was playing with octagons and this is what resulted. Looking at it gives me a headache after a while…
