Twelve Tags of 2012 – December

It’s the last Craft Club of the year tomorrow, and thus the last of my twelve tags of 2012. This one incorporates WOW! Embossing Powder, die cut tattered pine cone, a cocktail stick, hot glue, dry glitter and the special secret ingredient – an upcycled orange juice carton! There will be the option to add holly sprigs as well.

Christmas Stained Glass

I’ve just posted my latest WOW! Embossing Powder project over at the design team blog. I learnt quite a lot about embossing powder onto glass! Follow the link to also learn how I managed to take a photo of a mirror without being in it…

When you can’t get leather… try grungepaper!

Hi – this morning has been spent on a commission. I have been asked to wear something I have made using WOW! Embossing Powder when I’m demonstrating at the NEC next week [Hobbycrafts Exhibition, stand M12-15]. Though I didn’t immediately dismiss necklace or earrings, I didn’t think I’d enjoy the ear lobe crushing of a clip on, and necklaces just dangle in the melt pot… So I came up with two ‘man bracelets’:

Both bracelets are made from grungepaper coloured with Vintage Photo and Walnut Stain distress inks, embossed using Tim Holtz texture fades embossing folders, stuck down with Studio matte multi medium. Sewing reinforces the whole thing and the fastening is a Tim Holtz copper hitch. Bracelet 1 features the new WOW! Special Edition Embossing Glitters (Caribbean Jewels) due to be launched at the NEC. Bracelet 2 (The Other Wrist) features the WOW! metallic embossing powders. Grungeboard would work as well, but I didn’t have a size that wrapped round my wrist!

[Not quite] Exclusive Stamp News!

I’m finally allowed to reveal one of the brand new line up of WOW! Embossing Powder stamps making their debut at the Hobbycrafts Exhibition at the NEC, Birmingham from 8th November 2012.

It’s called ‘NB Canvas’ – and it’s my design 🙂

This versatile frayed fabric stamp will be great for inked backgrounds, but obviously works far far better with a layer of embossing powder to give really tactile texture and a fabric feel to your projects. It’s roughly A6 size, so will work well on cards and scrapbooking as well as altered art projects and why not – even fabrics!

It’s not available in stores yet – as I said, it will debut at the NEC show – but snap one up as soon as you see it!

I’ve created a project with it over at the WOW! Embossing Powder Design Team blog, so please pop over and have a look!

It’s half term…

Though it’s half term, all is not quiet in the perfectly4med studio (actually it’s still the conservatory). I am busy creating demos and producing tutorial videos for WOW! Embossing Powder, including one using one of their new stamps being launched at the Hobbycrafts exhibition at the NEC, Birmingham from 8th-11th November. The stamp happens to have been designed by me, and as soon as I’m allowed to share the details you can be sure I will!

I’ll be on the WOW! Embossing Powder stand (M12-M15) at the NEC on the Thursday, Saturday and Sunday, so if you’re there, please come and say hello! They have some fantastic new products, two demonstration tables and on-stand workshops repeated throughout the day – be sure to sign up early if you want to get a place.

And having mentioned a studio, I’ll be shortly sharing details of my ambitions to get my own studio – I’d love to hear your experiences and ideas as I start to prepare to have a dedicated working space.

The WOW! Guide to Perfect Embossing

For those of you that aren’t familiar, or are a bit rusty at, or may be just want to have some good tips and tricks to improve, I’ve written a photo guide to heat embossing for beginners, complete with troubleshooting tips. It’s over at the WOW! Embossing Powders blog if you want to know more.

Pumpkin Monster Card

I still don’t ‘do’ Hallowe’en, but when you’re on a design team, you have to do what you’re told! I’ve created this card for Wow! Embossing Powders for their Hallowe’en theme this month, and used several different mixes to get the shading. Find out more here. And the template for the pumpkin sections can be found on my templates page.

Pearlised custom patterned card

The design challenge over at WOW! Embossing Powder blog this month is ‘monochromatic’ and featuring their fabulous pearlescent powders. This is what I came up with, and if you’d like to find out how I made the pearlescent background card/gift box lid pop over and read my post.

My art in the USA

It’s a bit late in the day for you to go and see – but a piece of my art was at the CHA Summer 2012 show in Rosemont, IL (I think that’s Chicago) last week. Here’s a pic of the WOW! Embossing Powder stand – look for the bus image on the right next to the Union Jack (which by the way is also made from embossing powder):

That’s Suzy Solorzano West – the WOW! Marketing Coordinator for the USA from whose Facebook page I nicked the image as I wasn’t flown across to take my own 😉

Well that there bus pic is 2ft square, and ‘painted’ with embossing powders, taking about 8 hours in all to complete. I made it on four white coated hardboard sections so that it could be packed for the trip. The white hardboard was slightly textured, so took the embossing pen and powders well without too much cling and available in sheets from B&Q – I had them cut it down into roughly 12″x12″ squares. The brief for the piece was ‘iconic image of Britain’. Lovely to see it in pride of place 🙂
