Completely off the wall creativity here – not sure where this one came from at all! 100% original pattern. Hopefully you can see it’s based on padlocks and keyholes…

This tangle pattern was inspired from some of the iron work supporting the benches on Cromer pier.

An original pattern born from doodles while running in a new fountain pen. I’ve used the pen for the black lines and can now recommend Noodler’s Bulletproof Black Ink and a medium nib fountain pen for zentangling. Just be sure to beware of smudging…

Bit of a ying yang thing going on with this one. Starting with the simple ‘S’, join the top of one to the bottom of the S on the row below – it helps if the curves finish on the right angle (about 60 degrees?). Shading a bit tricky, but choose one to fill in and follow the space round.

So simple I’m sure someone else has done it already… Lots of variations possible on this one, two of which I’ve popped on the pattern for your consideration.

I think this one is a bit of a retro pattern, but the steps are all mine. It could almost be Curly Braces Five!

Following a request left on my blog, I’ve spent the evening playing with typographical elements other than curly braces! This one starts off with the brilliant question mark… and it appears again in steps 2, 4 and reversed in 5. Hmmm, wonder where I came up with the name 😉

Ok, so there are other ways of drawing this pattern, but it starts with an X and adds lots of Y’s. The window in the centre is technically a variation of the pattern, but I liked it so much I left it in.

This pattern is brought to you by the letters U, V and W. Reminiscent of the navajo indian patterns, it can be drawn in lots of ways after the main motif is established.

Not the Dutch national airline, but a tangle pattern developed from the typographical elements of the letters K, L and M. As with other tangle patterns, you may find easier ways to draw the repeating pattern once you have the hang of the motif.

The small print

I discovered tangling after hearing the word 'zentangle' used in an art journaling workshop. Then I discovered the fun of deconstructing patterns for use in tangles. The Zentangle® art form and method was created by Rick Roberts and Maria Thomas. Zentangle® is a registered trademark of Zentangle, Inc. Learn more at zentangle.com.
