I don’t normally ‘do’ Halloween stuff, but the optional theme over at AAA Cards this week for their clean and simple card challenge is ‘Halloween cats’. I don’t particularly ‘do’ cats either – I’m a dog person – so I dropped that part of the challenge and went with a straight Halloween theme instead. This stamp from Tim Holtz was perfect for this, or a pirate card, and I’ve just coloured it in with alcohol markers.

Wanderlust 2022: Watercolours – weeks 29-35
I’ve procrastinated a bit on my homework for this section as I and watercolours often do not get on well together. The lessons have been great on Wanderlust 2022, with each of the tutors carefully and patiently explaining the techniques they use so that they are, in the main, replicable. Here are my results from weeks 29-35…
Various mixed media techniques on papers other than watercolour paper have generally worked ok. I still haven’t fallen in love with watercolours as a medium, but am glad I have tried them. Oh, and buying decent tube watercolours made such a difference to the vibrancy of the colours over the student quality hard pan collections I normally use.
AAA Cards DT: No layers sympathy card #223
Here’s a clean and simple card design for a no layer sympathy card. It’s the latest theme over at AAA Cards. No layers means exactly that – all the elements need to be on the card blank, no matting and no embellishments (which count as a layer). They are one of the trickiest challenges to do. My card is just about the simplest I have made!
AAA Cards DT: Small and few #221
A little challenge over at AAA Cards this fortnight, with the main theme being ‘small and few’. The optional twist is to add (lady)bugs to your clean and simple card design. Here’s my take on the theme:
AAA Cards DT: Along the edge #220
Challenge time again over at AAA Cards and the theme for the fortnight is ‘along the edge’ with the optional twist of ‘under the sea’. As always, the card should be clean and simple – minimum layers and embellishments and lots of empty/white space. Here’s my design team card for your inspiration:
AAA Cards DT: Christmas pets in July (#219)
As previously mentioned, Christmas in July is a thing in the crafting community. This week at AAA Cards challenge blog, the theme is ‘anything CAS goes’ with the optional twist of Christmas (pets) in July. I’m not a fan of the whole Christmas thing, especially starting in July, and am renowned for being a little bah humbug about the whole thing! So this card suitably sums up my state of mind…
LIM DT: Pink and Gold
A fortnight has passed and it’s time for another clean and simple card challenge over at Less is More. This time, it’s a colour theme and they’ve chosen a classic combo of pink and gold. It’s not a one layer card this time, so I’ve taken advantage of that by adding my elements on foam pads to give a little height and extra interest:
LIM DT: A Bit of Bling
I don’t think I could have come up with a much simpler card than this for the latest challenge at Less is More. It’s a recipe and the ingredients are ‘a bit of bling’.
LIM DT: Just One Word One Layer Card
There’s another challenge for clean and simple card making at Less is More. This time we’re asked to make a one layer card – which means just that. No die cuts, very minimal embellishments and no matting of designs either. As an added challenge, any sentiment must be ‘just one word’. Cue lots of masking and overprinting!
AAA Cards DT: One ninth with favourite animal (#209)
In this week’s challenge over at AAA Cards, we’re set the task of using just one ninth of the card for our elements. Which ninth you use is up to you, as is the size of the card. I chose a dog as my favourite animal and worked back from there to get the right size card to fit into my ninth. Ok, it overlapped a little, but the essence is certainly there!
