Day Three: a citrus fresh burst of tangle today! ‘Oranges and Lemons’ grew from filling the spaces between the lines I’d doodled. Lots of shading and even colouring potential in this one. Sort of reminds me of a fruit machine… Wonder if I can fit in the cherries and plums?

Day Two of my daily publication of seven new tangle patterns. ‘Raffia’ is, I guess, an adaptation of the numerous basket-weave based tangle patterns. It uses an offset repeat, which is a bit tricky at first, but drawing the base crosses speeds things up enormously! Once you’ve done those, fill in the ‘cords’ and the pattern is complete.

The first of seven new tangle patterns to be published exclusively on this blog until Sunday 19th June. ‘Inverse Square Law’ is a simple pattern, and I like the complexity of the negative spaces as well – anyone spot the ‘cross potent’ – a form of Maltese Cross?

This is a pattern based on the stone and flint work that forms part of the tower to Holt Methodist Church in Norfolk.
This tangle pattern is named after the stretch of the River Soar that runs through Leicester. The embankment was renovated some years ago, and incorporated new railings containing this pattern. I’ve included my photo of them below. I also declare this to be my 50th tangle pattern!
I developed this tangle pattern playing with ways of connecting corners of a set of squares in a grid. The name comes from combining Flowers with Squares.
Completely off the wall creativity here – not sure where this one came from at all! 100% original pattern. Hopefully you can see it’s based on padlocks and keyholes…
This tangle pattern was inspired from some of the iron work supporting the benches on Cromer pier.
An original pattern born from doodles while running in a new fountain pen. I’ve used the pen for the black lines and can now recommend Noodler’s Bulletproof Black Ink and a medium nib fountain pen for zentangling. Just be sure to beware of smudging…
