In between planting out onion sets, garlic and shallots at the allotment, teaching scrapbook layouts, supervising a learner crocheting and making tea for the landscape gardeners, I slipped in an art journal page! It just goes to show that if you aim to do a page a day – you can. Just! I wanted to try my inverse silhouette technique with something other than black ink, and I think it worked really well 🙂
Used in this layout:
- Background layer: Dylusions Paints (I think – it was quite a while ago!)
- DecoArt Americana Decou-Page Photo Transfer Medium
- Woodware Mask-It sheet
- DecoArt Personally Yours Stencil: Roaring 20s [PYB102]
- DecoArt Media Fluid Acrylic: Titan Buff
- Posca Pens (1M & 5M)
- Start with a background, and remember that it will show through the image transfer
- Make sure everything is dry, then apply the photo transfer medium as directed and leave to dry – I used a photo from the RHS magazine
- Remove the paper layer by spritzing with water and rubbing it away
- Seal with another layer of photo transfer medium
- Meanwhile, trace the letter outlines onto the Mask-It sheet and cut out
- Stick the letters down to the dry page and then sponge over Titan Buff paint, building up the layers and blending out as required
- Finally, add text and outlines with Posca pens.
