Next month’s art journal session at The Studio (Mon 4th April, 7:30pm) is all about pattern development. We’ll be carving our own stamps from Speedball Speedy-Carve before stamping with paint or ink to create our personal and unique designs on our pages. I’ve taken three of my tangle pattern designs to make my stamps: Curly Braces Too, Flared and Circo. And in the process I discovered a new way of using tangle patterns: layering them. Something to explore further in drawn work I think!
Background was created with Distress Paints (probably). Stamps carved from Speedball Speedy-Carve block using scalpel. I ended up tracing the images using carbon paper as ironing on the pattern didn’t work very well, and the iron was too hot and melted the rubber. Patterns stamped using Dylusion Paints. Pen work used Posca paint pens.
Ooh I love this, Neil. I find it fascinating how many disciplines are now cross-fertilising and the boundaries are merging – stamping Zentangles and layering them is a novel idea and I adore the result!! This is a brilliant page with a great quote to match and I love how the background “tiled” design fades. The arrangement of the carved stamps on the page adds to the design, too! Really great stuff. I can’t wait to see you on TV.
