Hooray! After much anticipation (and waiting impatiently) my first pack has arrived from Trimcraft. You may recall I became a Trimcraft Maker at the beginning of the year, which means I get to play with new products – fun! The pack has four of twelve new decoupage paper designs along with matt glue and brush set:
From left to right: First Edition Deco Maché decoupage paper in Gold Rose Geometric, Modern Marks, Modern Floral and Animal Print designs. Foiled papers are two to a pack, unfoiled are three sheets per pack, all £2.99 RRP. They will be stocked at Craft Stash and in-store at The Range in the next few weeks.
For my first project, I wanted to get the feel for how the papers and glue handled since I have not used either before. I thought I would go for a conventional piece first, covering a papier-maché letter ‘E’ that I had hanging around in the studio.
It’s certainly a lot easier using decoupage paper rather than napkins. It’s a lot more resilient without being stiff and doesn’t disintegrate when wetted with the glue. The glue itself goes on smoothly, allows a little bit of sliding before it grabs. It’s fast-drying, so don’t leave brushes unattended for long. I recommend using the First Edition brush set – hogs hair brush to apply the glue (so that a good layer is left on the substrate) and nylon brush to smooth out and varnish (smooth finish). The matt finish is great, though, as you might expect, does take the shine off the foiled areas and over the metal sections will need two coats to fully take. I made a short video as I played with the paper/glue just for completeness.
Next project: art journaling with decoupage papers… coming soon 🙂
