I often get asked about the header designs on my website — many were created using Texturelabs.org’s excellent free Photoshop and After Effects tutorials. In this Friday Focus, I’m sharing my favourite finds from their site and top tips for getting the most out of them.

About Texturelabs.org
From the website:
Texturelabs is an online resource for free, original textures and tutorials for art and design. These elements are created by Texturelabs and are free to use, even in your commercial work (with just a few exceptions). Alongside these resources are a selection of original Tools – project files, templates, actions, and more, which play a vital role in sustaining the project.
The goals of Texturelabs are to:
- Explore new ideas and develop innovative solutions to design problems.
- Create and share resources and techniques for producing compelling art and design.
- Make these resources accessible to everyone, from students to seasoned professionals.

Top tips
All the files you need are freely doawnloable from the site and helpfully provided links are listed below the YouTube video for each tutorial. Get them downloaded prior to watching the tutorial and then you’ll be able to slot them in when you need them.
Brady talks quite fast and also briskly moves through each stage of the tutorial. Don’t forget you can pause and rewind as well as slow down the video using the YouTube settings cog thing in the bottom right and selecting the playback speed.
