In my description of The Studio, I refer to it being (as you’d hope) a working studio. Now, not many people get to see what’s happening at any time as I tidy up (or hide) current projects. As you can see from the BTS (behind the scenes) photo below, it’s not always possible to see the work tables. This is what’s on my desk, today, 24th May 2025:

There’s just eight projects on the go today… Use the drop down arrow for more details if you wish.
Art journaling
- Sticker making (so there’s less gluing and faster session.
- Sample – it’s a two session special given the amount of layers and fine embellishing involved.
Items waiting to be engraved
- Mugs
- Glass plates
- Tealight holders
- Slate panels
Camera set-up for filming
I’ve still got issues with the camera auto-offing, but I’m working through them. It takes longer to edit and post a blog tutorial for the art journaling than it does to do the actual prepping and making of the sample layout.
Hackspace projects
- CD sleeves to convert into transparent tangrams to complete under polarised light
- Blueprints for the latest Autodesk Fusion tutorial
- Logo and font matching for creating t-shirt iron-ons
For experimentation on fiber laser
These mini-Danish cookie tins (which must either have had teeny biscuits or not enough of them) were offered up (empty) and I thought I’d try cutting shapes out of the top for pot pourri or something, sort of like this one, but using my xTool F1 Ultra laser.
Repairing split in knee cushion
Bit of contact glue on a split in my polyurethane foam inner for my knee cushion – which by the way is a miracle cure for night-time back pain. Turns out that for many months, my lower back pain was during to twisting my hips and back with one knee being over and across the other…
Earring stand for craft fairs
I’ve been making some experimental earrings using wood and brass inlays and needed a display stand to show them off at craft fairs. Black MDF was ideal material for their construction. All will be revealed in due course…
3D printed mini bench sander
One of the earring experiments uses slate and I needed a smaller sander than my big bench belt sander. While musing this with a couple of Hackspace friends at the recent Makers’ Central event at the NEC, we came up with a plan to convert my Dremel. This is the second iteration and the frame came from Thingiverse and I 3D printed it in sections on my newly refurbished printer (thanks to the versatile DJ). Here it is assembled and clamped whilst the glue set. Testing to occur soon.
As at several hours later, some has been tidied away, but the art journaling still continues!
