A different colour scheme this week at AAA Cards challenge blog. We’ve gone for the fairly classic black, white and gold. The prompt guide photo has baubles, and I have also gone with a Christmas theme, but any subject matter is allowed as long as the colours are stuck to it and it is a clean and simple design. Here’s my design team card:
This was a bit of an experiment – I’ve never tried heat embossing on a metallic finish before. Thoroughly degreasing with an anti-static pad worked fairly well, with only minimal mini-scratches from the pad. The embossing ink is sticky enough to stop the stamp sliding when pressed down and the powder stuck to it well. A little tidying up with a fine paintbrush was required for stray powder. When I heated, though, the metallic finish paled and discoloured similar to how copper oxidises when heated. It produced an interesting finish which is acceptable but might be disappointing if unexpected. To complete the colour theme, I coloured the dove with white Posca (all-surface paint pen) which dries to a matt finish and contrasts nicely with the gloss of the gold and the black. I glued the panel to the card blank and next time I will find an all-over glue solution to stop edges lifting and distortion of the metallic paper.
Used for my black, white and gold card
- Stampendous wood-mounted rubber stamp: Dove Tidings [M169]
- Versamark ink pad
- Woodware Magic Anit-static Pad
- Creativ Company: A4 metallic gold paper
- Posca pen: white (PC-1M)
- A6 card blank
Beautiful Neil, so soothing.
Thank you for all your hard work on our Design Team and I am truly sorry to see you move on, but I wish you all the luck
