There’s another challenge for clean and simple card making at Less is More. This time we’re asked to make a one layer card – which means just that. No die cuts, very minimal embellishments and no matting of designs either. As an added challenge, any sentiment must be ‘just one word’. Cue lots of masking and overprinting!
I stamped the outline of the sentiment first, and then lined up and stamped the word in the box (using a stamping platform for accuracy). I then masked this off before printing the flower head and stem over the top. I also masked off the bottom of the card. I added the border lines in the corner before colouring the images with watercolour pencils. Finally, I used a grey ProMarker to add the shadow under the sentiment box.
I wasn’t entirely happy with the way the blues worked on the card. The card stock was quite absorbent and the colours didn’t move around with water as much as they might have on watercolour paper. I ended up using two colours and blending them with the white pencil. It worked out in the end, I think.

This is super Neil. Perfect masking with your word box too
This is gorgeous, Neil. What a beautiful image, and you’ve colored it so beautifully. I love the corner treatment and the masking for your sentiment is perfectly done.
A seriously CAS challenge this time, and you’ve nailed it. Such a beautiful card. I love the little border you created.
