It was sooo tempting to draw a line of drying laundry after a whites’ wash for this week’s ‘winter whites’ theme over at Less Is More challenge blog. I decided that this possibly wasn’t the best idea for a greetings card, so dropped it in favour of this design:
The white-on-white card was my second go at the theme – I found the rest of the design team had gone with that, and the initial card below stood out like a sore thumb. So, to make the card above, I sprinkled some white ultra high WOW! Embossing Powder across the card and carefully heat set it without blowing it off the page. I die cut the sentiment (Sizzix) and mounted it onto foam pads. Add a couple of dewdrop embellishments and a few drops of Glossy Accents and you’re done. Not the best outcome – I really don’t like white-on-white and it’s a pig to photograph too.
Should I have kept my nerve and gone with the first one I made (below)? Let me know in the comments which you prefer and whether you would have considered it a ‘winter whites’ theme.
Mask off the centre of the card, then smear layers of Picket Fence Distress Paint using Ranger cut’n’dry foam or fine make-up sponge. Dry between layers, building up the intensity and opacity of the winter whites in progressive layers working towards the bottom of the panel. Trace around the panel with a white Posca pen or acrylic paint pen and draw in the snowflakes. Finally, stamp the reindeer in Ranger archival jet black ink.
