I know, I know, I mentioned the c-word in the middle of summer. It’s not my fault! The Less is More challenge theme this fortnight is ‘Christmas in July’ and it’s a one layer card. That is to say: one piece of folded card stock with no other layers or embellishments added and keep to the clean and simple rules as well. It’s not that easy and is one of the challenges that I usually need several attempts at to get my stamping and colouring all square and ‘perfect’ for the design team post.
Here’s my take on the theme:
Used on this card
- Stampendous cling stamp: Glory to God [CRN249]
- Ranger Archival Ink: Cobalt
- Ranger/Tim Holtz Distress Ink: Tumbled Glass / Chipped Sapphire
- Amsterdam Acrylic Marker: White
- Molotow Liquid Chrome pen (fine tip)
- Stix2 Low tack stencil tape
Stamp the text using cobalt archival ink, heat set/dry, then mask off the edges using the stencil tape. Blend the two distress inks, starting with the lighter in the middle and then merge the darker from the edges. Sprinkle with water droplets (not mist) and blot off before drying. Peel off the stencil tape and draw along the ink edges with the Liquid Chrome pen. Add dots of white paint with the paint pen.
Your background is gorgeous and such a perfect backdrop for that wonderful sentiment stamp. Just beautiful. This would be a great entry to Time Out Challenges where the challenge is “peaceful”. That is certainly the feeling I get when I look at this beauty.
Perfect masking and colours. Love this one layer card!
Just beautiful Neil. Love the ‘starry night’ background you made with the water and paint pen and looks gorgeous with the sentiment. Vicky 🙂
Sorry for the late comment Neil! I love that deep shade of blue/grey, lovely effects with the water and white pen detailing, a really great monochromatic one layer 🙂 x
