As normal, when it goes quiet on here, it’s because I’ve been working away on a project behind the scenes. This time it’s a Tunisian Crochet Colour-block Scarf using Spiin yarn:
I had hoped for a more ombre effect, but I guess I should have merged the colours in a clever way rather than just tying the ends together as I ran out. Given I’m still getting confident in Tunisian crochet, that wasn’t going to happen! I love the textured effect reminiscent of a waffle, or the slightly more complicated Tunisian lattice stitch. This uses just Tunisian simple stitches, working forward two, back one to get the pattern. I used one ball each of the colour yarn to get a scarf 6 foot long and 11 inches wide, casting on 40 stitches on a 12mm hook. Total make time around 24 hours. It’s worth working in blocks of time as each time I picked it up to do more, I’d lose a stich or the pattern somewhere down the row and would have to undo work I’d done to get my eye in again.
Spiin yarn is exclusively available on Amazon and comes as a multicolour pack of 20 x 100g balls of 100% acrylic yarn. It’s 8-ply and doesn’t readily split when working with. It’s also washable. As a bonus, the pack also includes crochet hooks and weaving needles and a free downloadable pattern book is also available.
