I can’t remember the last time I made a mini-book from scratch… I suspect it was one of my travel journals, and the last one of those was over a year ago. I spent the night (literally) dreaming up things to do with the other decoupage papers from my Trimcraft goodies. One that stuck was to make a mini-book using the Deco Maché Rose Gold Geometric paper as the cover. Turns out that I am a little out of practice, but cobbled this together this evening:
I love the muted pastel tones in the background and the foiled papers look splendid when not being photographed!
The book covers are greyboard, primed with gesso and then covered with the decoupage paper using the First Edition Matt Decoupage Glue/Varnish. The spine is covered with some Bazzill cardstock I had kicking around in my scraps box. The pages are laser cut from heavy acrylic paper and they’re bound with Zutter wire-o. The final (untabbed) page is stuck down to the back cover. I’m sure I’ll get round to doing something on the pages in due course.
I had a few more wrinkles on this piece than on the ‘E’ yesterday – I think that is because of the larger area making it more difficult to smooth out the wrinkles and the bubbles. I think I also added more glue to make sure it was well stuck down, which of course wets the paper more, and that’s what creates wrinkles.
Next up: an art journal page. I know, I know, I said that yesterday, but I wasn’t dreaming about art journal pages all night!
The new decoupage papers are available from CraftStash now, and at The Range in a couple of weeks.
Hi Neil,
I love your mini-book (and your comment about the difficulties of photographing!).
Yet again you prick my conscience … so many half-done projects from ages ago, that need finishing ….
Wrinkles can be good! (I love a bit of gold-shimmer on mine!)
