Next month’s Bible Journaling Session has the theme ‘a bit of bling’. There are some verses and illustrations that just scream out for some sparkle. A quick search using biblegateway.com came up with this gem: the only verse in the NIV translation that has the word ‘sparkle’ in it.

The secret to an effective sparkle is the choice of underlay and then the type of sparkle. I coloured the letters with Polychromos coloured pencils with low and highlights of each colour. This gives a good ground for the translucent glitter options available in the Ranger Stickles range of glitter glues.

For instance, I added small lines of blue in this outline, leaving some areas uncoloured. Adding Diamond Stickles gives the sparkle, but allows the base colour to come through.

And in this view, the base colour of the crown is more evident, with a translucent Stickles (Yellow) overlaying it. The Lavender and Xmas Red Stickles are more opaque glitters and rely less on the under colouring. The blue is Waterfall, another semi-translucent glitter.

For a more subtle glitter, the Stickles can be watered down and applied with a brush, in which case a sound under colour is essential.
