Craft Label DT: Decoupage Cards II

More Craft Label goodness, hopefully for your inspiration and inspired purchases! This time I’ve used the Christmas Sentiments decoupage paper for three decoupage cards. For the square card, I decoupaged a square piece of white card first before mounting on the gold mat. For the DL card, I just stuck a piece of the decoupage paper to the mat – it’s see-through and the clear tape sticky is just visible as a dark lines (subtle but there) so I’d not do that again. Finally, I decoupaged the paper direct to the A6 card. Of course, the card buckled and it took a fair bit of work to get it flat enough again. I needed to outline the gold heat embossed sentiment with Stickles to help it stand out against the decoupage paper. This helped tie the text to the embellishment as well.

Craft Label DT: Winter Sparkle Cards

More Craft Label goodies! In my last DT post, I used the Winter Sparkle decoupage pad and paper pad to make a shadow box. This week, I’m using the same pads to make several Christmas cards for your inspiration…

LIM DT: Festive OLC

Another challenge is live at Less is More. This time it is a one layer card with the theme ‘festive’. As before, one layer cards mean just that: no hiding behind layered papers or mats, perfect printing first time and minimal embellishments. Even die cuts aren’t allowed as they are an added layer. I normally paper-piece the stamp I chose to use, so that was not an option in a one layer card. Instead, I went with some colouring-in:

I stamped in Memento Tuxedo Black using a stamp platform, and then again with Versamark as I then decided to heat emboss the outline with clear gloss to make it stand out a little. I then coloured in with ProMarkers adding lots of layers and then highlights with a correction pen and Posca markers. Finally, I added some stickles and liquid pearls to give a little more interest to the card.

Used for this card

  • Woodware clear stamp: Huge Noel [FRS219]
  • Memento Tuxedo Black ink pad
  • VersaMark ink pad
  • WOW! Embossing Powder: Clear Gloss Super Fine
  • Letraset/Winsor & Newton ProMarkers: Denim Blue / China Blue / Cool Grey 3
  • Ranger Stickles: Waterfall / Gunsmoke
  • Ranger Liquid Pearls: Royal Blue
  • Tippex Correction Pen
  • Posca Pen [PC1-MR]: White

Sparkling Tatty Teddy

I last entered a ProMarker challenge in July 2013 and thought it was high time I had another go. This afternoon I coloured in a wooden stamp that predates even my last challenge attempt – it’s from 2011. This week’s challenge at Passion for ProMarkers is ‘sparkle and shine’. I’ve used ProMarkers to colour the image and added sparkle with Stickles and a wee bit of shine on the nose with Glossy Accents.

Bible Journaling: Sparkle

Next month’s Bible Journaling Session has the theme ‘a bit of bling’. There are some verses and illustrations that just scream out for some sparkle. A quick search using biblegateway.com came up with this gem: the only verse in the NIV translation that has the word ‘sparkle’ in it.

Bible Journaling: Christmas 2018

The weather outside is frightful – the risk of freezing rain didn’t amount to much, but it’s cold, dark, blustery with heavy rain. As a result, I am in a toasty warm studio with pencils and pens out and doing some Bible journaling. I thought I’d take some of the less familiar scripture verses that are relevant to the Christmas story and develop some graphics to capture them in my margins.

Art Journal Page: Whizz Bang Pop Fireworks

It’s time for my monthly art journal session on Monday evening, and it coincidently happens on 5th November – fireworks night. It seemed fitting, therefore, to have a suitably explosive theme ‘whizz, bang, pop’. There are spaces available, just let me know if you’d like to come.

Here’s my take on the theme:

Christmas 2018: A Clockwork Christmas

A Clockwork ChristmasI’ve been playing with resin this week and in these overlarge bottle caps (5.5cm diameter) I’ve added clock parts and snowflakes over a resinated book page. I love the layering that is achievable with resin, and the depth the layers create within the piece. I’ve completed seven different pieces designed to be used as Christmas tree decorations, perhaps with a steampunk theme? Resin isn’t cheap so each of these will be £7.50 each.

A Clockwork ChristmasUnfortunately, due to the gloss reflections, the photographs don’t do them justice! The snowflakes are more translucent white than opaque grey and layer well within the resin.

Bible Journaling: Psalm 136, Psalm 139:14

It’s still busy at The Studio, as there’s a That’s Crafty! One Day Special on Hochanda on 8th/9th December. That means I have six hours of live TV to prepare for – samples, show prep and lots of mental rehearsal! There are moments, though, where drying time gives me the chance to have a bit of ‘me’ time – and I’ve done a couple more Bible journal pieces. I have a couple of favourite verses from the psalms – Psalm 139:14 is one. The opposite side is the refrain in Psalm 136, used for page balance.

Psalm 136 - Psalm 140

I experimented with a different medium for this double spread. By using [amazon_textlink asin=’B000PD3M8E’ text=’Derwent Inktense’ template=’ProductLink’ store=’themanicstamp-21′ marketplace=’UK’ link_id=’991cfa48-d2a1-11e7-a146-679050d7348b’] pencils on clear gesso/matte medium mix, you can direct the concentrated colour and use a dilute wash to create the background. For those unfamiliar with Inktense pencils/blocks, they are a richly pigmented colour pencil, which when wetted on or off the page become more vividly saturated and easy to blend. Once wetted and then dried they become waterproof – so much so they can be used to dye fabric too.

I topped off the text with some Stickles glitter glue to add a little glitz.

Art Journal Page: Frozen Fractals

Last Monday was my regular art journal session at The Studio. We took the theme ‘baby, it’s cold outside’. Coincidentally, it was one of the coldest evenings of the autumn too. The theme called for cool colours, shimmer and sparkle to evoke frost rime on windows and icy surfaces:

I started with layers of gesso, creating ridged fans/feathering by jittering the edge of a palette knife to make the texture. Sprinkle a little Ultramarine Color Burst. Add more layers of gesso and then iridescent medium. Stamp with archival inks before adding the quote. Smear some Stardust stickles over the page and set aside to dry. I think the quote source is fairly obvious and just fits the theme perfectly!
