Another Art Nouveau inspired tangle pattern. It helps to turn the page round to do the ‘top’ layer. Keep your corners curved and your arches asymmetrical.

Wellenstil – tangle pattern
I’ve been inspired by Art Nouveau patterns this week. The arches frame the tangle pattern ‘Grass’ nicely.
Autumn Leaves Art Journal Page
I completed this double spread in my moleskine sketchbook art journal over the weekend. It uses my own art journal elements (the leaves) and the quote is from Albert Camus. Doodles are with Unipin fine line pigment pen. Background is blended Tim Holtz distress inks on gesso.
Art Journal Elements – Autumn
Ok, so it’s nearly spring… but the colours I’d used to make the background papers inspired an autumnal theme! This is my first attempt at creating decoupage sheets suitable for many things, but I had art journaling in mind when I came up with the sketches. Please feel free to print out the sheets and use the images in your own art projects. If you share the sheets, please make sure my name is still on them. The sheets may not be copied as a part or a whole to be re-sold in any format without my permission. I’d love to know what you used them for!
Click on the images to open an A4 size version that you should be able to save and print out. If you would like a high resolution version, let me know.
Zentangle mini-canvases
Thought I’d share my mini-canvas zentangle inspired art pieces. The canvas and easel are packaged by Reeves and I got them for £1 each from The Range (also available in other online stores). They are 7cm square. It was quite tricky to draw on the weave of the canvas so I used a thicker pen than normal. I also found a blending stump was required to evenly spread the pencil shading.
Decodomes – tangle pattern
This one was inspired by pictures of the Chrysler Building in New York. I think shading is mandatory to get it to work and not look too busy. Keep your domes tall and their sides straight for best results. I wasn’t careful with my zigzag lines if you were wondering…
Decomonds – tangle pattern
Mirrors, door frames, brickwork – art deco had a lot of these motifs! Good for a repeating pattern, or could be used to make a deco border.
Decostar – tangle pattern
This one is reminiscent of UK police force badges… Makes a great centrepiece for a tangle. I found drawing the rays from the centre helped with the spacing.
Decobricks – tangle pattern
Inspired by an art deco brick wall, this pattern zings with a touch of shading. The original wall was of blue brick with the brick cluster deepset into the brickwork.
1930s Style ProMarker Tutorial
I’ve done some more ProMarker colouring, and thought I’d post the steps and pens used. Let me know what you think and if you’d like any more. The image is a stamp from Circa Designs, VA-IM-11 1930s lady in frame (big), available from their website which is listed on the suppliers page. Apologies for the photo colouring – I’ll find my tripod and decent lighting next time.
